How will the New York Giants 2018 Draft Unfold?
Perhaps more intriguing than the Cleveland Browns … and what they’re going to do at #1 in the NFL Draft … are the New York Giants and what They are going to do at #2 in the 2018 Draft. 4 picks in the Top 69 … it’s not garnering the same attention as Cleveland’s 5 in the first 65, but the New York Giants are in a position to add young talent and address glaring holes on the offensive line, despite the Solder signing … a note on signing 30 year old Left Tackles to long term expensive contracts (you Hope they become Andrew Whitworth and play All Pro LT at age 38 … it’s a risk). RB is a gigantic need. I’ll have to dig through the history books to see the last time the New York football Giants had an effective running game by NFL standards. It’s literally been the piece missing the past few years.
I don’t view QB as a Need this year. Eli is a Hall of Famer … in his twilight, sure … let me ask you #GiantsNation, how many times has Eli Manning been counted out? You go all in with him this year … take Barkley at #2 … the best Available OT at 34 overall (Jamarco Jones, Brian O’Neill), heck this Arkansas guy Frank Ragnow everyone is talking about as undervalued, Billy Price from Ohio State because he can play guard or center … in the third round, best available pass rushing DE … with both picks …. a 3rd round defensive lineman has a 50/50 chance to be a 3 year starter, you’re drafting so you’re bound to get one right. Odell is back and healthy, Evan Engram is the next Gronkowski. Sterling Shepherd … does Brandon Marshall have anything left in the tank? … Roger Lewis … these are legit options on offense and with Saquon Barkley in the backfield? How about Sony Michel? How about Derrius Guice? Nick Chubb? Do the New York Football Giants have to spend the #2 pick on a RB or can they wait and take one of these guys with pick 34 and acquire more draft capital by trading down? Acquiring draft capital is a move that’s already been made by the new regime.
If the Giants actually make a selection at 2, Saquon Barkley is the only name that makes sense. He fills a Huge Need and he’s being called the best prospect in a decade … like ever … can’t miss guy .. all that stuff makes me nervous about him and i can draft Harold Landry with 1.12 and Connor Williams 1.22 … the trade came from Buffalo … plus selections at 34,65,66,69 … Granted, I’m not the Cleveland Browns with 5 picks in the first 64 … the Giants would pick 6 times in the first 69 … and address every hole on the team, including RB with pick 34 … Sony Michel being electric at the next level iisn’t going to surprise anybody … Maybe Alvin Kamara good but Sony gets more touches. Three 3rd round picks (early) … second round talent pass rushers might be available .. Sure Landry fills a need at push rush, he’ll be playing outside linebacker, more help is needed in the front 3 on the ends.
A trade down, and the New York Giants 2018 Draft Could go like this:
1.12 – Harold Landry, Edge, Boston College
1.22 – Connor Williams, OT/G (Two Positions of Need), Texas
2.34 – Sony Michel, RB, Georgia
3.65 – Kevin Tolliver II, CB, LSU (he’ll have to be coached to realize his potential. You’re gambling he Could live up to Potential and oh my that Size for a Corner)
3.66 – Duke Elijofor, DE, Wake Forest. Currently being undervalued because of injury concerns
3.69 – Equanimeous St. Brown, WR, Notre Dame (Brandon Marshall insurance).
There’s no point in mocking further … all the trades make it impossible.
As your GM, #GiantsNation, I would be looking to future the rest of this year’s picks, 4th round and beyond, maybe package them for a future second rounder. We didn’t address the Eli situation this year … no need … we’re gonna roll with him At Least one more season. There’s no debate he’s in regression, older brother Peyton finished at age 39. Future draft picks would allow us the capability to move up if we really like someone at QB in 2019.
As your faithful writer, of this post, offering an opinion for the New York football Giants and their 2018 NFL Draft, I personally believe you roll with Eli the next two seasons, he’ll end up with more rings than big brother Peyton. He’s a Hall of Famer Already. And please, rest of the world, pretty please with sugar on top, please Count Out Eli Manning … Say “He Doesn’t Have a Chance” … We’ve All heard that before.
I’m of the opinion, if the draft above is Executed … the Giants are a sexy pick for the NFC Title Game. At least NFC East Champion because of Philadelphia’s Regression.
